Uses For Memory Foam

Something that I have noticed lately is the number of different products that are starting to use (and highlight the fact that they use) memory foam. Now, I know memory foam has been around for quite a long time now, it was developed for the space program back in the 1960s, I believe, but an astounding number of different types of products are now adding a little bit of memory foam in strategic spots to increase the comfort for the user.

The most obvious place where we are seeing memory foam used is in the bedroom on mattresses and mattress toppers. Our comfort when we lay ourselves down to sleep each night is paramount and a good quality mattress will be sold or passed over based on the level of comfort it can provide. The nature of memory foam allows the mattress to mold itself into the shape of the person lying on it creating a much greater sensation of being cradled with equal pressure being applied on all parts of the body.

That’s the reason why memory foam has become popular. But the question remains, exactly what is memory foam?

Memory foam is polyurethane that has had chemicals added to it to change its viscosity and density. It may also be seen to be called low-resilience polyurethane foam. It was first created in 1966 by NASA as part of the space program and was designed as a way of making aircraft seats safer and more comfortable to sit in. As you can imagine, when a vehicle is travelling as fast as rockets the pressure on the pilot will be enormous as they are pushed into the seat. A material with the properties of memory foam that can mold itself to the shape of the back to provide support across the entire back is essential.

The example that I gave up the top was the mattress or the mattress topper and they are both fairly obvious ways that memory foam can be used in a beneficial way. We have seen a lot of new products that have changed the shape of the bedding industry.

But memory foam is showing up in a few other places that I wasn’t expecting. When you think about it, though, its use makes a lot of sense.

The first came when I was looking for comfortable slippers that will not only provide my feet with warmth but would also feel comfortable. Some of the better quality slippers are being advertised as using memory foam to help support your feet and provide them with extra comfort. It sounds as though it could be comfortable.

The next instance came in the cycling industry. Sitting on a narrow saddle and pedalling away can be very uncomfortable on your backside. For starters, it’s a fairly delicate part of the body and also, there is a lot of movement going on down there when you really want to get the bike travelling at speed.

Saddle makers are obviously looking for every advantage when they are trying to come up with a comfortable saddle and it appears that one of the ways to make the saddle a little more comfortable is to use memory foam. In this case I can imagine that a saddle that has molded itself to your butt shape might start off feeling great but it could also make it difficult to move around the saddle which is something that many riders like to do depending on whether they are travelling uphill or downhill.

I have also seen that memory foam is also being used in rehabilitation of injuries. It can be used to provide a lining for splints so they don’t irritate the skin or rub and become painful. The heat of the body would help the foam mold itself to the shape of the hand or arm and would also flatten it against the skin to provide a comfortable barrier.

Just because I have developed a bit of an interest in the stuff and, well, because I’m a bit of a nerd, I think I’m going to spend a little time checking out some of the other uses that have been found for memory foam.

More later.

Deciding On A Hydration Belt

I have been running for many years now and have completed my share of marathons but I have never really gotten into the whole “carry your own drink bottle” thing. That being said, I did actually once buy a water bottle and holder that could be strapped around my waist, but it definitely wasn’t designed for running and, consequently, it was forever jiggling about at the small of my back and would slowly make its way from the middle of my back to one side or the other. I wore it a few times but felt it was more trouble than it was worth and so I have contented myself with stopping for a drink at a local park, service station or a tap from a front yard. Not ideal.

So I’ve decided it is time to update myself into the 21st century and buy a hydration belt. I’ve already started to look at the various types – that’s how I know that they’re called “hydration belts”. They’re actually a little more advanced than belts capable of carrying water or whatever fluid you’re drinking. With pockets and hidden compartments they are complete fuel supplies, communications and music holders. They’re pretty swish and they look as though they will provide the type of service that I will need.

There were three types of hydration belts that caught my eye when I started looking. Mainly, they caught my eye because they came up as the most popular with customers on the Amazon site. I was looking for belts that contain 4 water bottles and the three that were at the top were the Amphipod RunLite 4 Hydration Belt, the Nathan Speed 4R Waist Pack and the FuelBelt Helium 4 Bottle Belt.

All three of these belts come with 4 x 8oz bottles and they all look as though they would not weight very much and would sit nicely around the waist.

In reading the reviews it quickly became clear that there were some small but crucial differences between the three different types of fuel belts. The first came down to the positioning of the bottles, the second came down to the ability of the belt to remain sitting in the spot where it was first attached and the last came down to the amount of storage other than the bottle holders that each provided.

Now, I’m not going to go into a gigantic explanation of all of the pros and cons of each of the hydration belts that I looked at because they largely come down to a matter of personal preference. Just because I didn’t like the amount of storage space in one type of belt may be completely inconsequential to the next person.

What I will tell you is that I have chosen (and ordered) the Amphipod Hydration Pack and when it comes and I have had a chance to take it out for a test run, I can report back on exactly how it feels. The main contributing factor for me in choosing the Amphipod was the fact that the bottle holders could be moved around to any point on the belt and they can even be placed so that the bottles are held horizontally as well as vertically. This means there should be no chance that the bottles or the holders will impede my swinging arms while I’m running.

A Handful of Vital Methods for Writing Amazing Sales Copy

As an online business entrepreneur or really almost any kind of internet marketing company owner, there’s one important thing almost all of us can agree on… Writing excellent sales copy is not an easy feat. There are a lot of things that a person must perform really well to create sales copy that converts a large proportion of viewers into customers. There are several important components for writing killer sales copy, but 3 of them jump out over the rest. I have discussed them below.

1) Write for the Target Market

One of the positively most important strategies for creating sales copy that really converts is always to write it specifically for your target market. You must have a precise person in mind when you are creating it. That means you must know precisely who your potential client is and what they want. Form images in your mind of what your ideal customer is and write specifically for that individual.

Any time you target your sales copy to a precise individual which represents your market it will become personal for anyone who reads it. Making your writing personal will help the text to truly touch the reader on a more intense level and will make more people buy anything that you’re offering.

2) Use their Emotions

People buy stuff depending on emotions for instant satisfaction much of the time. That’s why you hear the term “impulse buy” so frequently. For that reason, playing on the readers emotions is crucial for crafting fantastic sales copy. You are hoping to tap into them emotionally and the simplest way to make this happen is to come up with points that they are able to identify with. Create an image in their imagination for precisely how marvelous their life will be if only they had whatever it is that you are advertising.

3) Concentrate on the Benefits

Yet another very important piece of advice for writing great product sales copy is to greatly concentrate on the advantages for the potential client. You do not simply want to tell your reader of all the great things that the item or service does. That does not trigger them to buy. What you need to do is take it a step further for them. You should show the reader what these magnificent things are going to do for them. You want them to understand the benefits and envision how remarkable they are. Do not simply tell what your service does; show what it will do for the consumer!

Okay, that is actually all you need to know for getting started. The 3 crucial methods for writing mindblowing sales copy are to write for your target audience, play on their emotions, and concentrate on the advantages for them. Like I said, there are many other factors, but these are certainly some of the most essential ones. Just be sure you always remember these guidelines when you are composing product sales copy for your services and products.

Visiting Melbourne

One of the big disappointments in my life is my failure to travel to the city of Melbourne nearly often enough. I’m a born and bred New South Welshman and although I have visited many towns and cities in my own state, I have rarely visited the southern capital.

The fact that I am an AFL fan and should really make a point of visiting what is considered to be the most impressive stadium in Australia only reiterates the point that I have really missed out. Watching football or cricket in such surroundings would truly be a memorable experience and something that I must make a point of doing soon.

Not only is there the sporting attractions that would make the trip worthwhile but, from all accounts, the dining is not to be sneezed at either. I’m well aware that there is plenty of good Italian food in Carlton where the pubs and restaurants are pretty special. Alternatively, heading into the dining strip on Fitzroy St in St Kilda would also provide a wonderful array of choices.

Although it’s not really my cup of tea, the fashion stores around Melbourne also hold a lot of attraction and provides those looking to do some serious shopping with some of the finest choices available in the country.

What does hold my attention is the wine region of Victoria and the proximity of the Yarra Valley to the city. This is one of the finest wine regions in the country, one of a number around Melbourne and would certainly provide another feature of the city that would be within reach as a day trip.

The more I think about it, the more reasons I can find for wanting to make my next holiday a trip to Melbourne. With plenty of affordable accommodation, quaint pubs and hotels dotted throughout the city and much to see and do, I am sure the itinerary will be filled every day.

Why You Should Use Organic Soap Bars

The amount of people choosing pure products is increasing greatly every year and for good reason; they are better for your well being and the planet. One of the trends increasing the most around the “organic living” community is the use of natural bar soap. Below I am going to talk about some of the logic behind why using natural bar soap is wonderful for you and your household.

Part of the Health Movement

In recent years there has been a movement for healthy eating around the world so a lot more people are switching towards pure foods. This health movement has expanded into utilizing pure products on your skin and around your house also. Therefore, natural bar soap and other natural cleaning solutions have obtained loads of popularity now that consumers are realizing their advantages.

Organic SoapBecause truly natural bar soaps only use organic ingredients, they’re better for your skin, great for the ecosystem, and just plain healthier overall. Furthermore, the majority of the all-natural soap bars are scented from their ingredients so they smell great, and are naturally colored in the process. Lots of foods possess amazing aromas that they will add to the soap, for instance coconuts and oranges, and these are usually used when producing pure soap.

Why Organic Soap Is Good For the Skin

However, there’s no doubt that the major selling factor for pure bar soaps is that they are fantastic for your skin. The pure ingredients used to produce them are also precisely what provide them with an awesome lather and natural moisturizing properties. Furthermore, they go through a natural soap making method so they keep all of their glycerin, which is typically extracted from typical commercial soap. Glycerin is a particularly good moisturizer so that gives natural soap another advantage from the start. Another natural product with superior moisturizing abilities is organic lip balm.

Organic soaps may also contain another ingredient called Bentonite clay. This is an ingredient that increases the amount of lather produced in the soap. It is also a natural detoxifier and it works by binding with the toxins from the body before it is washed away.

The skin is porous and absobent so whenever products that contain harmful chemicals are applied to it they can be drawn straight into the body. Rather than introducing the many chemicals that are contained in commercial soaps you could be using the natural products contained in the organic equivalent.

Organic Soaps For Exfoliation

Yet another excellent thing regarding these natural soaps is that often times they’ve got natural exfoliation properties. The types of soaps that we are talking about here contain ingredients such as oats, walnut shell and rice bran. A little bit of gritty material, when combined with the lather of the soap will gently remove dead skin cells to leave clean rejuvenated skin exposed to the world.

In reality, lots of luxurious spas utilize various kinds of organic soaps as part of their relaxing spa treatments. When you have your own at home, you can spoil your skin every day similar to the way a spa would, but without the substantial expenses.

You should also keep in mind that the vast majority of commercially manufactured bar soap contains artificial lathering agents, artificial colors, and a whole heap of chemicals most people cannot even pronounce. Most of the anti-bacterial and antimicrobial soaps contain triclosan, which is a toxic chemical known to cause cancer. Skin is actually porous and absorbent thus it soaks in whatever comes in contact with it. Permanent use of those cleansers full of toxins can cause your body to store them and you really don’t want all those chemicals inside your system!

Furthermore, those severe chemicals and toxins wind up finding their way into our environment. Every time that lather washes down the drain, the toxins are going with it into the eco-system. Therefore, organic, all-natural, homemade soap is a much better alternative to use for a lot of reasons.

A handmade natural organic soap is not only going to be appreciated by your body but also by the planet. It only takes a single sampling of the luxurious feeling of lathering up an organic bar of soap to appreciate the substantial difference which is very likely going to prompt a switch for life.

Napier Grass As A Trap Crop

The potential uses for Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) continue to grow as researchers have been testing certain areas of agribusiness with it. We have already seen how the use of the grass around old mining sites can help to decontaminate the polluted ground and know that its use as a biomass fuel is a possibility that is also being explored. Now researchers have been testing the possibility of using the grass as a “trap plant” to protect crops from pest damage.

This process is currently in use for maize crops in Kenya and the process has been detailed in a document that was jointly released by the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI), Ministry of Agriculture, Kenya, Ministry of Livestock Development & Fisheries, Kenya, Rothamsted Research, UK. The process is referred to as the Push-Pull Field Strategy and is used to control the gramineous spotted stemborer.

The way it works is that the Napier grass is planted in a border around the maize crop in such a way that it will pull the stemborer moth away from the maize. After the stemborers lay their eggs on the Napier grass the larvae are unable to develop into adults on the grass. Also in the crop desmodium is planted between the rows of maize. The rows of desmodium serve three useful purposes, the first is that they repel the stemborer moths who do not like the smell, the second is that it improves the fertility of the soil and the third is that the presence of the desmodium stops the growth of striga weed.

The reason why luring the stem borer moth to the Napier grass where it will lay its eggs is because it has been found that the even though the moth prefers to lay its eggs on Napier grass it has proven to be an unsuitable host for the larvae. The mortality rate of the larvae hatched on Napier grass is extremely high, even when a more suitable host such as a crop of maize is nearby.

In effect, the presence of Napier grass around a field of maize provides both an insecticide solution and a herbicide solution to enhance the field’s yield.

All of this sounds very promising and is one of a number of ways in which trap crops are being used to improve agricultural conditions. There is, however, one note of concern and it involves the health of the Napier grass plant in eastern Africa. A stunting disease of Napier grass has been spreading, affecting the growth of the grass.

According to one source “The Napier stunt disease is caused by 16SrIII group of phytoplasma, specialised wall-less bacteria that are obligate parasites of plant phloem tissue. The vectors of phytoplasma in Napier grass are not yet known. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify vector(s) of Napier phytoplasma so that a regional resistance screening programme could be established.”

It means that resistant grass varieties must be found that can be used in place of those that are affected by the disease. Failure to do so will threaten the Push-Pull Systems already in place as well as threaten the milk production as livestock lose a significant food source.

What is Adrenal Fatigue?

The problem of general tiredness can be caused by one of a number of different factors. One of those that has been suggested in some areas is something called adrenal fatigue. I have decided to take a closer look at exactly what this may be.

Adrenal fatigue is a syndrome that occurs when the adrenal glands fail to operate at their optimal level. It is something that comes about following periods of intense or prolonged stress or after illnesses such as bronchitis, influenza or pneumonia.

It is the type of situation that does not appear to be relieved by the simple act of getting some more sleep. While going through the process of adrenal fatigue you may not necessarily look any different on an ongoing basis, in fact you may feel generally pretty normal. However, the overriding feeling of simply feeling unwell is going to wash over you.

There are some other names for the syndrome such as non-Addison’s hypoadrenia, sub-clinical hypoadrenia, neurasthenia, adrenal neurasthenia or adrenal apathy.

The process of adrenal fatigue may be one of increasing deterioration of the adrenal gland function. As the condition worsens the body’s organs will continue to lose their function and the body will be affected to a greater extent. The body will do its best to make up for the reduction in function of the adrenal glands but, as a result this may lead to problems in the function of other parts of the body.

When trying to work out if someone is more or less susceptible to adrenal fatigue it has been concluded that anyone may develop the problem given the right contributing factors. There are some general factors that may make you more susceptible to adrenal fatigue and they include things such as poor diet, substance abuse, sleep deprivation, stress, chronic illness or repeated infections.

So, is there a way of determining any early symptoms of adrenal fatigue? Things such as feeling tired for no reason or feeling too tired to get out of bed in the morning may be some indicators. Also, if you have trouble shaking off illnesses it may be worth noting it down.

What To Consider If You’re Too Tired To Exercise

You may be reading many articles about how, in order to lose weight, you need to eat less calories and exercise more. This may be very good advice for many however if you’re too tired to exercise then there may be underlying health concerns you need to address. Always consult a doctor if you’re worried about your health however here are a few things you ought to consider before buying fat burners.

Hypothyroidism – Many people with hypothyroidism are often accused of eating too much and being lazy. As a result it can be very difficult to get a diagnosis and the internet is littered with stories of people who’ve struggled for many years with undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Symptoms to look out for include fatigue, unrefreshing sleep, depression, dry skin and hair.

If you feel you have hypothysoidism but can’t find a doctor to prescribe the correct medication, you can try natural supplements such as kelp, B complex, selenium, manganese, tyrosine and thyroid glandulars.

Anaemia – Anemia is well known for causing fatigue as the low red blood cells reduce the amount of oxygen getting to the cells in your body. There are different types of anemia and usually it’s associated with iron deficiency however a deficiency in vitamin b12, folate, vitamin b6 and copper should also be considered.

Supplements that can help include iron (avoid ferrous sulphate), B complex, copper (balance it out with some zinc), magnesium and sea salt.

Insomnia – More and more people are having problems with getting enough sleep and it’s easy to then become addicted to sugary and fatty foods in order to provide some energy. There are a number of tips you can look at to help you get to sleep better these include avoid watching TV before going to be, have a bath before going to bed and block out all forms of light so that your room is pitch black.

Melatonin is your sleep hormone and you can either take melatonin supplements or take supplements to help your body make its own melatonin. These supplements include vitamin B6, magnesium, zinc, B12 and folate.

Adrenal Fatigue – When you’re stressed, not eating properly or become ill with an infection it can cause your adrenal glands to become exhausted. The stresses in your life (physical or emotional) the more likely you’ll develop adrenal fatigue. This can cause a variety of symptoms include tiredness, problems sleeping, mood swings and weight gain.

Unfortunately adrenal fatigue isn’t widely accepted by the medical community and so it can be difficult to receive proper treatment. There are many supplements on the market to help re-build your adrenal strength such as vitamin C, vitamin E, B complex, adrenal glandular and ashwaganda. Also make sure you add in plenty of sea salt to your diet.

Surprise Surprise More Young Kids Use Facebook

In an unsurprising finding it has been revealed that a survey has found that the number of parents who allow children aged between 10-12 years to have a Facebook account has doubled in the last year. As a parent of an 11 year old boy I know there are many, many 11 year olds just in my part of the world who have Facebook accounts, so the results of the survey are hardly surprising at all.

As Janet Taylor, a clinical instructor of psychiatry at Columbia University at Hospital in New York explains, “It’s not alarming. I think it means we need to be aware of what is going on and how to best utilize social media.”

The level of monitoring of the Facebook accounts is the important factor in my opinion. As long as you are aware of what is being said and posted on Facebook you should minimize the risk of something untoward taking place.

As another part of the survey it appears that many people are getting Jack of celebrities jumping onto Twitter and arguing with other celebrities for the world to see. It seems that the idea was exciting for some people to begin with but the saturation of this actor or that actor posting meaningless tweets on a regular basis has become a little bit more than anyone wants to be subjected to.

We Could Soon Steal A Cyber Kiss

I seem to be having “now I’ve seen everything” moments more and more frequently these days – must be my advancing years – but once again a news story has prompted me to shake my head and mutter “well, now I’ve seen everything”.

The story is about the new invention coming out of Japan that allows people to make out over the Internet. That’s right, it is soon going to be possible to share an Internet kiss with someone thousands of miles away – or even someone who died years ago.

The dudes (nerds?) at Kajimoto Laboratory at the University of Electro-Communications have come up with the first stages of a machine that can replicate a kiss over the Internet. The way it works is you have a box with a straw-like device that you move around with your tongue. At the other end the person you’re “kissing” gets a straw moving around in their mouth too. Apparently that sensation satisfies the requirements for a kiss.

So not only can we now initiate relationships over the Internet without actually meeting our prospective partner face to face we could be well on our way to becoming intimate with them…also without actually meeting them face to face.

It’s an increasingly weird and wonderful world we are living in. I suppose when nerds start to get a little lonely they’ll turn to just about any technology as a way of satisfying themselves in a bid to prove to the rest of us that they can enjoy a normal relationship just like everyone else.
